Website Tips (as seen from moi)
#.
Rule:
Example if possible;
Why you should/shouldn't use it
1.
Never use the blink tag:
Common Sense
2.
Never use flashing, blinking stuff etc.:
images from flaming text.com, DHTML effects, etc.;
Causes head strain to many a surfer and is just plain annoying.
3.
Never use internet lingo:
hey wuz^ ma homyz jus han roun wit ma frins;
It's annoying, hard to read, looks bad, sometimes unidentifiable,
ment for IMs and not websites, to some people it's like reading Chinese when you've only
learned English, and again it's annoying!
4.
Never use all caps and avoid it altogether unless you need to for some reason or another:
HEY THIS IS MY SITE CHECK IT OUT.;
It's annoying. If you think your viewers can't see, improve the color or font size but don't use caps.
5.
If you have nothing good, don't put it up:
Hi i just wanted to make a site;
I'm not trying to discourgae anyone but always remember what’s in the best interest of the reader.
6.
Use proper spelling, grammar, punctuation and capitalization:
hey wuz^. nmh? no joke me. i aint neva goin;
It’s annoying and it looks bad (sorry if I sound like your L.A. teacher but it's true). The only exceptions to this rule are people who don't use English as their primary language. In that case if/when you type in your primary language, use proper spelling, etc.
7.
Find a host without ads or find a way to remove them:
There are a few free adless servers out there so use them
instead of ones that fill your site with ads and will make the companies like AOL more money.
8.
Give credit:
Picture supplied by Sewnso Graphics Inc.;
If you take a picture, script, etc. off someone else’s site or something
else credit them, visible or not (to make it invisible to the viewer but visible in the source
code, type <!--message here-->
9.
Add copyright notices, etc.:
All items on this site are registered trademarks of their respective owners;
So you don’t get in trouble and so you can get someone else in trouble if they
steal your stuff and credit themselves.
If you want some Hexadecimal color codes, go here.
That's it for now but I might make updates in the future.
This is just a guide for people, it souldn't be used as "laws of the Internet" so if someone
else "breaks" one of these "rules", just forget about it, it's their site, not yours. This is also how I would
like websites to look like, so no offense to the people who use/don't use some on the examples above.
